Read MoreA bold new mural has landed in our rotating art space, bringing bright flowers and beautiful blue herons to the West District at UTC. Created by local artist Dana Laag, this vibrant piece celebrates the beauty of summer with warm colors and birds iconic to Florida’s waterways. On display now between Blaze Pizza and JPAN, be sure to soar over and snap a pic before the design flies away this October.
Dana Laag is a multidisciplinary artist originally from the Philadelphia area, holding a double BFA in studio painting and neuropsychology. She earned her degree in 2014 from Rider University, utilizing the multidisciplinary arts program between the Rider and Princeton campuses. She frequently studied from the collections at the Princeton Art Museum, and fell in love with the intricate, flattened design of the ancient East, as well as renaissance era works.
Dana has lived in Sarasota for 11 years and works as a professional muralist and commission painter, serving SW Florida and mural festivals across the US. She specializes in subtropical birds, plants and other subjects from nature, while incorporating contemporary geometric design – typically in the form of pattern, symbolism or unusual major divisions within a piece. She also performs professional art installations for local homes and businesses, and previously served as the art educator of Selby Gardens.
