Thanksgiving is a time to gather with family and friends. But if you’d rather relax…
Read MoreGoodbye April, hello May! With a new month comes a colorful and bright new mural at our rotating art space in the West District at UTC. Our latest featured muralist is Laura Pommier, a local contemporary artist from Port Charlotte. Laura’s design, titled Neon Rainbow, pictures three children, modeled after her own grandchildren, who are reminiscent of the characters in the classic tale of Peter Pan.
Laura, originally from the Midwest, received a Master of Arts from Indiana State University and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Murray State University. She began her career in Jasper, Indiana, where she worked as a graphic artist for The Herald newspaper. At the same time, she produced studio art and exhibited in juried, group and solo shows nationwide, winning many awards. She also worked as an artist in residence for several years at the grand hotels in French Lick and West Baden, Indiana, producing portraits and scenery.
Since moving to Florida, Laura can be found work in her studio and teaching painting, drawing and pastel at North Port Art Center and the Visual Arts Center in Punta Gorda. Her latest work has been featured in publications such as The Herald Tribune, The Sun, Harbor Style, and Sarasota Magazine. Her artwork is also popping up at new venues across the region in the form of murals, including the First Thousand Days Mural in North Port; the Blooms Mural at the Wellen Park Welcome Center; and a wave design at the Loveland campus in Venice.
Follow the rainbow to the art wall between Blaze Pizza and JPAN Sushi & Grill to find this special art treasure and show us your photos using #utcsarasota.
